#DefendLocal in The New York Times on California Soda Tax Preemption

As California labor advocates and business groups looked to strike a compromise that would ban local soda taxes through 2030, #DefendLocal was quoted in The New York Times on the strategy of corporate interests pursuing state preemption:

“It’s a little bit like, instead of playing a game of whack-a-mole, you could just put a sheet of plywood over all the holes,” said Franco Ripple, a spokesman for the Campaign to Defend Local Solutions, a group that was founded last year to oppose state laws that limit local autonomy.
